Site Author

This web site has been created by Frank P. Bunton (great-great-great-great-grandson of the first John Paton listed here) and great-grandson of John G. Paton) to record all the known details about the descendants of John & Marion Paton, the first Patons in this record and the life of John G. Paton.

Site Location.

Acknowledgements

A lot of the data so far included here has come from a type written sheet showing the descendants of the first John Paton (including the Rogerson and Heyer connections). The origin of this sheet is unknown. But it only had descendants down to John G. Paton.

I also used a copy I had made of a sheet prepared by Frances Boyd (nee paton) that I found many years ago at Anglesea. Unfortunately it did not have dates on it. This sheet included the Whitecross connection.

A lot of new and confirming information has now been included from a Family Tree drawn up by Robert Reid Paton (New York in 1999) and a very comprehensive genealogy from Michael Paton (a great grandson on John G. Paton). These two sources have been forwarded to my by David Meldrum who has married into a branch of the Paton family descended from Walter Rogerson Paton, a brother of John G. Paton.

John Bunton has helped with providing some dates and photos.

Bibliography

Some information has been taken from these books:-

John G. Paton - Missionary to the New Hebrides - First Part
Edited by his brother Rev.Dr.James Paton
John G. Paton - Missionary to the New Hebrides - Second Part
Edited by his brother Rev.Dr.James Paton
John G. Paton - Missionary to the New Hebrides
    By A.K.Langridge & Rev. Frank H.L.Paton
Letters & Sketches From The New Hebrides
    By Maggie Whitecross Paton

More information will be added from these books as I get time to re-read them.

Amendments & Additions

There are many parts of this record that are missing as some branches of the family have not been traced. There may even be (shock horror!!) some mistakes. My apologies for these.

If anyone can provide new or corrected information could they please let me know.

Also, some of the Paton family members might like to have their own or their family photos included, or might have better images of our ancestors than those in use here. If so,  they should send the photos to me.

However, it should be noted that the amount of material that I can include on my web site is limited and there may well come a time when I can no longer keep adding to this record.

Mailing List For Updates

I have already put all the John Paton descendants for whom I can find e-mail addresses onto an e-mailing list.

If you did not receive an initial e-mail announcing the creation of this site and you would like to be included in future e-mailings about changes and updates to this site then please let me know.

Other Paton Sites

There are the only other Paton web site that I know of. These are:-

The Paton Register Report run by Al and Denise Paton.

The Story of the John Clark Paton Family run by Craig Homer Paton.

The Paton Family Tree run by Lyn Blake Schwartz.

To the best of my knowledge there is no connection between these these families and the John G. Paton family.

If anyone knows of any other Paton web sites could they please let me know at and I will include a list here.

There is another Whitecross web site located here which is run by Steve Wilson with whom the descendants of John G. Paton and Maggie Whitecross probably share a common ancestor.
