Frank Hume Lyall PATON was born on the island of Aniwa, in what was then the New Hebrides, where his father John G. PATON  was a missionary.

Education: Melbourne & Glasgow. Ormond Theological College. BD (St Andrews)

He and his wife Clara served as missionaries in Tanna

In 1902 he was forced to leave the mission field due to ill health and was never to return as a permanent worker in the tropics.

He was then appointed Foreign Mission Secretary (for the Presbyterian Church of Victoria?) and Agent for the John G. Paton Fund. This involved him in extensive travel in Victoria, Australia, Britain and the mission field. he was chiefly responsible for the extension of the mission work in Korea.

He was appointed minister of the Deepdene Presbyterian Church in 1926 and continued until his retirement in 1936.

He was a leader in the Student Movement

He was the author of many books and studies.

During the "Great War" (World War I) he and his brother Fred volunteered for service abroad as Chaplains.

In 1922 he served as Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Victoria.

In 1925, due to ill health, he resigned as Foreign Mission Secretary
